Las Chapas is a 500 year old farmhouse in unspoilt rural France. Located on the crest of a hill, it is just 1 km outside the small medieval village of Tillac. The position has spectacular views of the surrounding countryside including the Pyrénées. The house is one of four traditional Gascon farmhouses and is accessed by a single track lane ending in another farm 1/2 km away.
Las Chapas sleeps 12 with two double rooms, two twin rooms and a spacious family room in the integral barn. Visible from the balcony, the private swimming pool is on a raised site above a large lawned area at the front of the house. There are two shower rooms. The larger of the two is downstairs, having a double shower and the upstairs shower room leads off the main landing.
The master bedroom adjoins the balcony, has colombage (half-timbered) walls and views towards the garden and pool. The third bedroom has north east facing views across the valley overlooking the golf course. The family bedroom is furnished with a double and twin beds with room for a cot (provided upon request). The second bedroom is the larger of the two twin rooms with the fourth bedroom being an ideal children's room.
The kitchen is well equipped and has retained some of its original features. French doors open onto the veranda which is often used as a dining area. An archway from the kitchen takes you through to the salon which has satellite TV plus DVD player. The barn, with north east facing views over the lake and the valley is used as a summer/games room, with a snooker table and an outdoor table tennis table. The barn is also a great space for larger groups to dine in.
The veranda opens onto a small terraced area and the lawn, which is on the lower level to the pool. The pool (10m x 5m) has a larger terrace with an outdoor shower and is set amongst an established garden and orchard. The main outdoor eating area (summer months only) is under a magnificent willow tree on the north east side of the garden. Car parking for up to 4 cars is provided at the back of the house, accessed from the salon.
An 18 hole golf course ( http://www.chateaugolfdepallanne.fr/ ) borders the lane to the house. A communal tennis court can be found in Tillac along with a bar/restaurant, church and an épicerie (corner shop).
Marciac, a ten minute drive away, has the nearest supermarket, restaurants, petrol station, bank, doctors' surgery, pharmacy and post office. There is also a lake and a public swimming pool complex.
Mirande, a 20 minute drive, is a bigger town and has a wider range of facilities including a large market once a week (Monday).
Further afield, the cities of Tarbes, Auch and Pau have major transport links and plenty of shops, services and entertainment to meet people's requirements. There are many restaurants and bars in the region and most villages and towns have summer fêtes, markets and seasonal events.
